What a yacht charter costs in Montenegro
Updated:
The short answer: from €355 for three hours on a motor boat and from €520 for a four-hour catamaran trip — for the whole vessel, not per person. That is the thing that confuses people first: you pay for a boat that takes six to twelve guests and then split the sum among yourselves.
Here is what the price is made of, and where the arithmetic usually goes wrong.
Prices by type of vessel
| Type | Guests | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Motor boat | up to 7 | from €355 for 3 hours |
| Motor boat | up to 9 | from €390 for 3 hours |
| Sailing yacht | up to 8 | from €390 for 3–4 hours |
| Catamaran | up to 8 | from €520 for 4 hours |
| Catamaran | up to 12 | from €780 for 4 hours |
| Speedboat, short trip | — | from €235 for 2 hours |
| Speedboat by the hour | — | from €130 an hour |
| Large motor yacht | — | from €3,495 for 8 hours |
Prices by departure town
These are per vessel too. The lowest price depends on where you set out from.
| Town | Lowest prices | Guests aboard |
|---|---|---|
| Tivat | 4 hours — from €390; full day — from €650 | 6–12 |
| Budva | from €170 an hour; 3 hours — from €355 | 6–12 |
| Kotor | 3 hours — from €580; full day — from €830; fast speedboat — from €315 an hour | 8–14 |
| Bar | from €130 an hour; sailing yacht for 3 hours — from €390 | 5–8 |
| Herceg Novi | 4 hours — from €415; full day — from €855 | 5–10 |

What the quoted price covers
- A skipper. No licence needed; the company’s skipper runs the boat.
- Fuel for the agreed route — already inside the figures above.
- Water, ice, towels — with most operators.
- Snorkelling masks — often, but worth confirming.
What costs extra
- Lunch at a shore restaurant — €15–25 per person, where the route includes a stop.
- Port fees at other marinas, if the route ends somewhere it did not start.
- The skipper’s tip — not required, but customary.
There is no charge to visit the Blue Cave. Since 2026 motor vessels have not been allowed inside the grotto: the boat waits at the entrance and you go in by kayak, on a SUP or swimming. Ask when booking whether there is a kayak or board aboard.
One line people forget: fuel is calculated for the agreed route. If you ask to go further during the day, the difference is settled on the spot.
When a boat beats a group trip
The group ship around the bay costs from €53 per person, runs in season only and comes with a Russian-speaking guide only. Your own boat from €355 split six ways comes to about €60 a head; a boat from €390, about €65. That is €7–12 more than the ship, but with your own departure time, your own anchorages and without eighty fellow passengers aboard. The two even out at seven or eight guests: seven on a €355 boat is about €51 each, eight on a €390 boat about €49.
For two, the group format is several times cheaper: a €355 boat is almost €180 a head against €53. For four, your own boat is about €90 each — clearly more than the ship, and at that point you are paying for freedom rather than for the route.
What moves the price
Season. Boats run from May to October, and by October not all of them are still working. July and August are noticeably dearer than May and October, and free dates in high season are scarce — boats go a week or two ahead.
Duration. Three hours means the neighbouring coves and a sunset. Four to six hours is a proper run around the bay. Eight hours takes you out to open water: Mamula, which you see from the water, and the Blue Cave.
Type of vessel. A catamaran costs more than a motor boat of the same capacity because it barely rolls and has twice the deck. A sailing yacht is about the sailing itself rather than speed: under sail a distant cove takes longer.
Where to start from
Boats leave from Tivat, Kotor, Budva, Bar and Herceg Novi, and the departure point changes the route more than the type of boat does. From Tivat you fit both Perast and the open sea into the same hours; from Kotor you get more of the inner bay; from Budva and Bar you run along the open coast to coves with no roads; from Herceg Novi the Blue Cave is closest.
City by city, that is on the pages for yacht charter in Tivat, Kotor, Budva, Bar and Herceg Novi. How a day on the water works is in a day on a boat.
Before you book
Weather cancels trips more often than you would expect: boats do not head for the Blue Cave in a swell, and past Mamula the water moves in earnest. Agree the terms for postponement or refund up front — most operators have them but do not volunteer them.
Light-soled shoes, or the willingness to go barefoot: dark rubber marks the deck. Cash for lunch and small spending ashore — there is no card terminal at sea.
For a specific occasion the vessel is chosen by capacity rather than price: a birthday on a yacht and a corporate day explain where the twelve-guest ceiling sits.
Prices are indicative “from” figures, checked in September 2026. The exact sum for your date is quoted by the company that owns the boat: booking and payment happen directly with them.
