Frequently asked questions
Will my driving licence work?
A national licence is enough as long as it is duplicated in Latin script — Montenegro recognises licences from Vienna Convention countries. If yours is in Cyrillic only, you need an International Driving Permit alongside it, or the car may not be handed over.
Is a deposit required for a car?
No. Some cars come with no deposit at all; for the rest, local rental firms usually take €100–300, while international chains block €900–2,000 on a credit card. The conditions for each car are visible before you book.
When is it cheaper to go?
High season runs from June to September: in July and August hiring a car costs roughly twice as much as in May, and cars and boats are booked up 2–4 weeks ahead. May and October are warm, quiet and noticeably cheaper.
Can I charter a yacht without a skipper?
Yes, there are options with and without one. Bareboat charter requires a skipper's licence, while a skippered trip needs no experience at all.
