Excursions in Tivat

Tivat’s advantage is that the airport is ten minutes from the marina: people take a tour on the day they land, before checking in, or on their last day before the flight. The water is right on the doorstep too — Porto Montenegro sits in the very middle of the bay.

What people take from Tivat

Boat trips come first: the cruise around the whole bay is from €53 per person, six hours with hotel pick-up. On land, the usual picks are Ostrog with Podgorica from €49, the Tara and Morača canyons from €68, and the Heart of Montenegro, with Cetinje, Lovćen and the cable car above Kotor, from €83. Rafting on the Tara is from €82 with breakfast and lunch, leaving at five in the morning. The boat, Ostrog and rafting run in season only and do not operate from October to May. The operator runs all its tours, group and private, only with a Russian-speaking guide.

A tour on arrival or departure day

The airport is ten minutes from the marina, so a half-day route fits between the flight and check-in. Luggage can usually be left somewhere — ask when booking, as boats normally have no space for suitcases. If the tour is on departure day, pick one that ends at least four hours before your flight: the road from the north is unpredictable.

The ferry and the road along the bay

Routes heading west — to Herceg Novi and Croatia — use the Kamenari–Lepetane ferry, a few kilometres from Tivat. It runs around the clock — every twenty minutes from six in the morning until midnight, hourly at night — and saves about thirty kilometres of detour, but in July and August the queue at peak times can take 45–60 minutes. The ferry and the time it takes are usually already built into the price and the group’s timetable.

Prices by format

Prices are starting prices, per adult. A child's ticket is usually about half the adult price; the operator gives the age limit and the exact sum in each route description. Entrance tickets and lunch are normally paid separately on the day — the operator gives you the exact figures.

Common questions

Can I fit a tour in on arrival day?

A half-day one, yes — the airport is ten minutes from the marina. Ask about luggage in advance: boats usually have no space for suitcases.

Is the ferry included in the price?

As a rule, yes: on the routes that need it, the ferry is included in the price and queue time is built into the timetable. Check this when you book.

Boat trip from Tivat or from Kotor?

From Tivat you are closer to the open sea, Mamula and the Blue Cave — both are seen from the water: Mamula is a hotel with no landing for visitors, and motor boats have been barred from the cave since 2026. From Kotor you get more of the inner bay. The price is the same — from €53 per person.

Are the tours from Tivat in English?

No. This operator runs every tour, group and private alike, with a Russian-speaking guide only; the exceptions are diving, paragliding and fishing, which run in Russian, English or Serbian. If a Russian commentary is no use to you, a boat with a skipper from Porto Montenegro or a hire car is the better choice.

Can I do Dubrovnik as a day trip from Tivat?

Yes, from €53 per person, passport required; the trip runs in season and does not operate from October to May. In summer the border queue takes from half an hour to two or three hours, and on your first entry into the EU a UK passport holder is photographed and has four fingerprints taken instead of a stamp.

Is there a tour to Ostrog from Tivat?

Yes, Ostrog and Podgorica, from €49 per person; it runs in season and does not operate from October to May. Entry to the monastery is free, but shoulders and knees must be covered.

What is the cheapest tour from Tivat?

Three routes start from €49 per person: Trebinje in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the old towns of the Bay of Kotor, and Ostrog with Podgorica. Trebinje needs a passport; the other two run in season only and do not operate from October to May.
