Getting to Vlorë and where to collect a car

Vlorë airport does not take passenger flights yet, so the nearest working one is Tirana airport, about 150 km away. You can collect a car there and drive straight down, or get to Vlorë first and pick it up here — some companies bring the car to your hotel.

How much does car hire in Vlorë cost?

The lowest price is from €25 a day, noticeably higher than in Tirana. Prices checked in October 2026. If you are flying into Tirana, compare: it can work out cheaper to collect at the terminal and return the car in another town — the one-way fee is on the car’s listing.

Parking in Vlorë: six zones and TISPARK tickets

The town is split into six paid zones: an hour costs 50 lek, two hours 100, a whole day 600 lek, about €6. You pay the attendant, who gives you a TISPARK receipt to put under the windscreen. The other option is a TISPARK scratch card from a kiosk.

South along the Riviera over the Llogara Pass

The Llogara Pass is about 25 km away, 30–40 minutes of hairpin bends. Beyond it the road drops to the sea and follows the coast to Sarandë: about 120 km, 2.5–3 hours without stops, 5–8 hours if you stop at beaches and viewpoints. It is a day out, not a transfer.

Many turnings down to the beaches off the SH8 heading south are unsurfaced. Hire cars must not use them, and the insurance does not apply there. The same goes for Gjipe canyon: check before you go which road leads down to the beach.

Apollonia and Zvërnec monastery

To the north lies ancient Apollonia, 30–36 km away, about 40 minutes. Zvërnec monastery stands on an islet in the Narta lagoon. If you are coming from Durrës, Apollonia is on the way.
