How do you get a hire car in Kobuleti?
There are no airport desks here — the nearest airport is Batumi, 25–30 minutes away. So the car is usually brought to your address: on some cars delivery is free, on others it is charged, and the car’s listing tells you which. Late-night and early-morning handovers cost extra.
Search results include cars from nearby towns with delivery, so the choice is wider than you might expect from a small resort. The minimum age here is 21 with at least a year of driving, and 23–25 for some cars; the deposit is rarely over $300, and many cars have none.
Parking and roads in Kobuleti
There is enough space even in high season: parking at hotels is usually free, and it only gets tight by the beaches in summer. The main streets run parallel to the shore and are straight and wide, so Kobuleti suits anyone who has not driven for a while.
From December to February the mountains around can be icy — if you are heading towards Makhuntseti or Khulo in winter, ask for winter tyres.
Day trips from Kobuleti
Batumi, with its boulevard and Old Town, is 25–30 minutes down the E70. On the way are Petra fortress at Tsikhisdziri and the botanical garden at Green Cape; beyond Batumi lies the Roman fortress of Gonio. Inland, the road to Makhuntseti waterfall runs through a gorge, so a car with an engine of 1.6 litres or more is the better choice.
Kazbegi is reached via Tbilisi, which is almost a full day at the wheel. If the mountains in the east are on your list, it makes more sense to hire the car in Tbilisi.
When to go
Kobuleti’s prices follow the beach: they peak in July and August, and people swim here from June to September. In July and August the road to Batumi is busy on Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00 and on Sundays from 16:00 to 21:00 — an extra hour on the journey. May–June and September–October bring frequent downpours to Adjara. The general rental conditions are on the car rental in Georgia page.
Prices by class
Prices by class are a guide based on the lowest city prices; on the coast and in summer they are higher, in winter roughly a quarter lower. The final amount for your dates is calculated by the rental company.
