Car hire in Pula
Pula is at the southern tip of Istria, with a Roman amphitheatre in the middle of town. PUY airport is 6 km away, and that is the easiest place to collect the car. From here Rovinj, Poreč and Motovun are all within an hour — Istria is small, and its hill towns are hard to see without a car.

Collecting a car at Pula airport
Pula airport (PUY) is 6 km from the centre, about a quarter of an hour. Collecting the car there is the most convenient option, but there are also offices in town and delivery to your address. The balance is paid on collection by card — credit or debit — or in cash, depending on the company.
Some cars in Pula come without a deposit — switch on the filter in the search. Return the car with the same fuel level as at collection: any shortfall is charged above pump prices.
Parking in Pula
The markings are easy to read: white is free, blue or a paid-parking sign means you pay, and yellow is reserved for taxis — do not stop there. Meters mostly take coins only, so keep change handy. In the 2026 season the Zone 3 car parks, including Mandrač, were paid daily from 7:00 to 23:00 until 30 September.
Break the rules and you face a fine and a tow to the pound. If you are staying near the centre, ask your host about a parking space before you book.
Day trips from Pula around Istria
The amphitheatre, the Forum and the Kaštel are in town, on foot. Cape Kamenjak by Premantura is the southern tip of Istria. Rovinj is about 35 km, 40 minutes; Poreč about 55 km, 50 minutes; and hilltop Motovun 65–72 km, about an hour.
Zagreb is 265–276 km, about three hours via the Učka tunnel, which costs about €4.50. The bridge to Krk is free. If you are carrying on south, you can drop the car off in Zadar or Split, if the company allows it.
Before you set off
In summer, free zones along the coast often become paid ones: a car park that is free in winter may charge in July, so read the signs. From 1 November to 31 March dipped headlights are compulsory day and night. Licences, deposits and insurance work as everywhere else in the country — see the car hire in Croatia page.
Prices by class
